Meet the Spouses of the 2016 Presidential Contenders

The women—and men—behind the next commander-in-chief.

By Alex Laughlin
April 13, 2015

The 2016 election frenzy is holding a firm grip on Washington. Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Hillary Clinton, and Marco Rubio are just a few among the 21 contenders to have announced.
But not much attention has been paid to the spouses of 2016 front-runners. From a former cheerleader to a Goldman Sachs executive and, yes, a former president, many of these potential candidates' spouses have respected careers in their own right.
Consider this your official invitation to get to know them and pay attention—one of these might just be the next first lady (or gentleman).

Libby Pataki is the director of Putnam County Tourism and worked on the I Love NY campaign. She also advocates for breast cancer and other women's health issues, as wealth as children's health. (Janette Pellegrini/Getty Images for Hamptons Magazine)

Lincoln and Stephanie Chaffee knew each other since teenagers and have been married for 25 years. Stephanie was one of the first nurses to focus on AIDS research, supports state hospitals and was the first citizen of Rhode Island to have the approval to officiate a civil union for two of her friends. (Courtesy of Lincoln Chaffee on Twitter)

Janet Huckabee was heavily involved in Habitat for Humanity projects in her time as Arkansas first lady. In 2002, she ran for Arkansas secretary of State, while her husband ran for reelection as governor. She lost the election, but he won.(Rick Gershon / Getty Images)

Supriya Jolly Jindal worked for Monsanto Chemicals and then the Albermarle Corporation before opting to raise her children at home and support her husband's political career. Some thoughtful takes on the Trump phenomenon here:

http://jewishracism.blogspot.com/

"The jewish controlled Republican Party and media smeared Trump with the rumor that he is running and will eventually run third party, so that Hillary will be elected in the general election. Now, they are demanding that Trump relinquish his right to run as an independent, so as to clear himself of their allegation.

The jews are trying to trap Trump. It would be a mistake for him to allow them to manipulate him into giving up one of his options to become President and surrender Americans rights to their own freedom of choice in the general election."

My take is that jews are creating fanfare for Trump to distract us from the bogusness of their mainstream polls.  I think the fact that Ben Carson (have you heard him in interviews? not sharp at all!) is drawing anywhere close to 2 digits, while Rick Perry and Jindall (governors with the best actual performance) are 2 and 1 percent, clearly says polling is absolutely BOGUSBen Carson in the running, the GOP version of Obama, come on, laughable.

Rand just freefell to somewhere like 2% as well - Trump had his number, punched his ticket. Perry repeating the same Jimmy Carter joke and lines like "there are great times ahead!" (doesn't resonate with simplistic realism) seem to have been his own undoing -- jews didn't even have to do much to bump him off the track!

Shouldn't conservative Fox/Faux be supporting Perry and not arguing with him and baiting him?

Perry cracked down on trial lawyers, nipped a lot of jew lawsuits in the bud.  Jews remember.

Maybe Rand Paul shouldn't have taken his wife's canned advice.

The impersonations (especially Carson) are pretty accurate in a messed up way, though crude on a jewy level. But is this whole circus not crude to our sensibilities on multiple levels? Jews know what makes a crowd tick. The public is entertained by Trump, yeah, and so that's apparently what it comes down to - entertainment. Not a single born leader in the line-up, save maybe a few in the low single digits.

Rand comes off too snively, it seems.
