Bangkok bombing: Australian actor Sunny Burns mistaken for Thailand CCTV suspect on social media

An Australian actor says he was mistaken as the suspect behind the bombing of a Hindu shrine in Bangkok, after social media users began pointing out similarities between him and a suspect seen in CCTV footage.
Sunny Burns, who lives in the Thai capital, said he was made aware of the rumours by friends after Thai authorities on Monday released CCTV footage showing a man strolling into a packed religious shrine and placing a bomb-laden backpack underneath a bench before walking away.
Burns, from Byron Bay, said he presented himself to police after an image comparing himself to the suspect in the footage began circulating online.

The 26-year-old posted a selfie to his Instagram account from his meeting with police, saying: "Talking with the police. I forgive everyone who spread those horrible rumours about me.
"I love this country and let's fight together. Let's find this bomber. I'm not a terrorist but I'm a ting tong actor."
He also said on Facebook: "Police are looking after me. No idea what's happening ... the photo of the terrorist looks nothing like me.
"I would never wear those clothing [sic] — I'm a fashion blogger."

About an hour later, Burns said he was in a police car and officers were going to search his house for bombs.
He praised police for their efforts.
"Police are great, doing their job and allowing me to use my phone," he posted on Facebook.
"This is all because of social media and some jealous hater spreading gossip.
"Mum I'm safe and more worried about the people injured in the attack."
He later posted on Instagram stills of CCTV footage he said showed his whereabouts yesterday.
"Here is the CCTV footage of where I was yesterday when I got back from the muscle lab gym in Huai Kwang and getting ready to teach my Native Speaker class," he said.
"The Royal Police has this and I would like to thank them for looking after me and being so supportive," he said in the post.
The blast in the Thai capital on Monday killed at least 20 people and injured more than 100, leaving body parts, shattered glass and incinerated motorcycles strewn across the crushed concrete of a busy intersection.
Junta chief Prayut Chan-O-Cha said the bombing was the "worst ever attack" on Thailand and that the hunt was on for the bomber filmed on closed-circuit television at the shrine.
National police spokesman Prawut Thavorn said the man left the scene aboard a motorcycle taxi, which are common in Bangkok, and the blast occurred three minutes later.

BANGKOK — The Thai authorities on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant describing the person sought in the bombing of a Bangkok shrine this week as a “foreign man,” and they said they believed he had at least two accomplices.
The motive for the bombing and the identity of the man remained unknown on Wednesday. The man’s image was captured by a security camera as he placed a backpack in the spot where minutes later an explosion ripped through the crowded Erawan Shrine, killing 20 people.
The Thai police released a sketch of the man with features they characterized as Caucasian, Arab or mixed race, saying he was about 20 to 30 years old and 5 feet 7 inches tall.
Although a police spokesman raised the possibility that the man was Thai and in disguise, the warrant on charges of premeditated murder was issued for an “unnamed foreign man who appears in the sketch drawing.”

The Thai police spokesman, Lt. Gen. Prawut Thavornsiri, told Thai television on Wednesday that the man spoke in English to a motorcycle taxi driver as he fled the scene.

“We are hoping the suspect is still in Thailand,” General Prawut said.
He said the security camera footage showed two men who appeared to be accomplices at the shrine, including one who gave up his seat on a bench and then stood nearby as the backpack was being placed on the ground.
Although the police said they were investigating a “network,” General Prawut clarified that this meant that the police believed the perpetrators had assistance with logistics, including obtaining materials to make the explosive device in the backpack.
“We are not saying this was an international network,” he said in a telephone interview.
The attack struck at the heart of Thailand’s tourist economy. In addition to six Thais, the dead included four Malaysians, four mainland Chinese, two residents of Hong Kong, an Indonesian and a Singaporean. Two other victims remained unidentified on Wednesday, according to the Bangkok Emergency Medical Services. More than 100 people were wounded, and several were listed in critical condition.
The shrine, which sustained only minor damage in the explosion, reopened on Wednesday. Workers filled in the small crater created by the bomb, but the gilded statue of the four-faced Hindu god Brahma at the center of the shrine was missing a large piece of chin.
Thailand’s chief of police, Gen. Somyot Poompanmoung, told reporters that it was too early to say what had driven the perpetrators to plant the bomb.
“We haven’t come to a conclusion on the motives of the case yet, whether it is terrorism or political,” he said.
General Somyot also announced a reward of 1 million baht, or about $28,000, for help leading to arrests.
The Bangkok Post, in an editorial on Wednesday, called for Thais, who have been deeply divided by politics over the past decade, to unite in trying to find the bombers.
“Monday’s brutal attack is clearly the worst in recent Thai history and bears no similarity to previous terrorism or violence,” the newspaper said. “It is only apparent that the bomber or group is the enemy of the people and the more united the people, the better the chances are for justice.”

Globo-Zio ‘False Flag’ Attack on Thailand

Posted on August 19, 2015

A bomb placed inside a Bangkok religious shrine frequented by tourists exploded Monday evening, killing at least 20 people (at least of 4 of whom were Chinese tourists). Flying body parts and shattered windows caused panic in the city’s most popular district. At least 123 people were injured (at least 20 of whom were Chinese tourists) in what Thai authorities called “a vicious act meant to target civilians” — coming at a very busy time of day at the Erawan Shrine, a tourist attraction in the heart of Bangkok. [...]

Dot #1: Back in 2012, the Israelis wasted no time in blaming a botched bomb plot in Thailand on Iran. From The New York Times, Feb 6, 2012:

Israeli Envoy Links Bangkok Bombs to Attacks in India and Georgia

“Thai authorities said on Wednesday that the group of Iranians detained after an explosion tore the roof off their rented house was on a mission here targeting Israeli diplomats.

“It’s almost the same system that was used in Delhi and in Tblisi, which leads us to think that they are connected,” the ambassador, Itzhak Shoham, said in a telephone interview.

The Israeli authorities said the discovery of explosives in Bangkok fits a pattern of Iranian-backed attacks on Israeli targets.

Dot #2: Iran strongly denied the Israeli accusation — same article:

“Iranian officials immediately rejected the accusation. An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Ramin Mehmanparast, called the accusation of Iran’s involvement “baseless” and accused Israel of trying to damage its relations with Thailand.

Dot #3: The independent-leaning Thai military regime is moving closer and closer to the Russia-China economic and military bloc as its relations with the U.S. deteriorate. From the Bangkok Post Feb 6 2015:

Thailand, China bolster military ties as US relations splinter —  Chinese defence minister vows no ‘interference’, Thai officials Say

“Thailand and China agreed Friday to strengthen military ties through expanded joint training, technology sharing, and discounted arms sales. A welcoming ceremony was held at the Defence Ministry.”  (here)

Dot #4: Iran and Thailand continue to expand upon their already friendly and close ties. From Tasnim (Iran), March 9, 2015:

All the real people seem to be 'riding the tiger' at the moment, while the 'sleeping giant' has been tranquilized to the point of comatose.

Still too much entertainment-sedation in general - lingering spectatorism. Not enough toys have been taken away yet for the crowd to start thinking different.

Police fear Bangkok bombing suspect may have fled

Associated Press 5:12 a.m. EDT August 23, 2015

COMMENTEMAIL
BANGKOK (AP) — Despite new surveillance video that may offer a possible clue to the bombing in central Bangkok that killed 20 people, Thai police said Sunday that the perpetrators may have already fled the country, and that they will "need some luck" to catch them.
Surveillance video leaked to Thai media shows a man in a blue shirt placing a bag on a riverside walkway, then kicking it into the water on Monday night shortly after the explosion several kilometers (miles) away at the downtown Erawan shrine. About 18 hours later, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, an explosion took place at the same spot near a busy pier, causing no casualties.
Col. Winthai Suvaree, a spokesman for Thailand's ruling junta, also said that closed circuit television showing the main bombing suspect was used to trace the route he took to and from the site of Monday evening's rush-hour attack. He said that a police sketch of the suspect had been distributed to border posts.

USA TODAY

2 suspects in Bangkok bombing cleared

Police spokesman Prawut Thawornsiri said he believes the perpetrator would have timed an escape carefully and "wouldn't have much time to stay around."
"I suspect that he may have left, but we will keep searching, in case we can find others who may be in the country or find clues, evidence and witnesses who may have seen him," he told Channel 3 TV network.
Police have offered a reward that on Friday was raised to 3 million baht ($85,000). On a police arrest warrant, the suspect is described as a "foreign man," although a military spokesman said a connection to international terrorism seemed unlikely.
Thailand's police chief Somyot Poompanmoung said investigators would need some luck to catch those behind the attack.
"I have to say we need some luck. If the police have good fortune, we might be able to make an arrest, but … if the perpetrator has good fortune maybe they can get away," he told reporters Sunday after a ceremonial show of security strength meant in part to reassure the public over safety.
Meanwhile, authorities have arrested two people for allegedly spreading "false information," apparently in connection with the shrine bombing.

USA TODAY

Police release sketch of Bangkok bombing suspect

A student who posted a bomb threat on Facebook was arrested in Ayutthaya on Saturday and was charged with a computer crime that is punishable by up to five years in jail and a fine of 100,000 baht ($2,800), Winthai said. He did not give details of the second arrest except to say it happened in Bangkok. Ayutthaya is about 80 kilometers (50 miles) north of Bangkok.
Winthai said the two people were arrested for spreading "false information causing confusion in society," but did not say whether their posts were directly linked to the bombing.
So far the operation to find who carried out the attack appears to have made little headway, with apparently contradictory statements coming from the military-backed government and the police.
Theories abound as to who was responsible for the attack.
They include ethnic Uighurs (pronounced WEE-gurs) angry that Thailand repatriated to China more than 100 of their countrymen who had fled from there; Islamic separatists who have been carrying out an insurgency in southern Thailand for a decade; frustrated supporters of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra angry at the military government that opposes his return to politics; and rival factions within the army contending for power.

Bangkok bombing: Thai police arrest man 'likely involved' with attack

Updated yesterday at 10:25pm

RELATED STORY: Unseen security footage may show Bangkok blast suspect
MAP: Thailand

Thai police have arrested a man they said was "likely involved" with the bombing of a Bangkok shrine that left 20 people dead and scores injured.

Key points

 • "Turkish national" arrested over Bangkok bombing

 • "Not yet clear" if man arrested is CCTV suspect

 • Passports, bomb-making materials found in apartment

 • Thai police not ready to exclude any possibility about who was behind the attack

The 28-year-old man is a "Turkish national", according to Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) spokesman Colonel Banphot Phunphien.
"He carries many passports. It's unusual how he carries so many passports," Colonel Banphot said.
It is the first arrest in connection with the bombing that tore through the crowded Erawan Shrine on August 17, which killed mostly Asian tourists in Thailand's worst single mass-casualty attack.

Good catch. A significant factor.

Much the same as in most countries, it's the cities and political apparatus that are more directly effected by the bombing, whereas the rest of the country probably carries on relatively unphased.

These terror bombings are strategic plays at the geo-political level.  The impacts are designed to transcend the operational and tactical levels.  Were it tactical, only antagonists would be targeted.  Were it operational, it would be part of a broader coordinated campaign with followup actions.  No, here the value is had at once at the highest level, geo-political.  It is this fact that is never discussed in the media (nor who benefits? Evil or Very Mad ).  It's too easy to figure out who did it.  When bombs go off in nations that jews/western media talk poorly about, ...just connect the dots.  How many undercover agents are in the employ of the jewish geo-political insurgencies and rackets these days?  Probably more than thousands.

Spot on. Attacks and operations in America on the other hand are on a more direct domestic level, tactically and operationally. It's the host country for the parasites and half the natives are restless. Any big attack here will have both a major effect nationally and geo-politically. As Judicial pointed out, 9/11 was just the kick-off.
