A Military Coup in the U.S.? A Surprising Number of Americans Might Support One

By Millie Dent | September 10, 2015

Imagine you’re watching the evening news, kicking back after a long day in the cubicle. Suddenly a breaking news alert flashes across the screen: “Military Coup Overthrows the Government.” What would be your reaction?

While most Americans say they can’t imagine supporting a takeover of the government by the armed forces, or least aren’t sure about it, a substantial number of people say they can imagine supporting the military in such a scenario.

In a new survey by YouGov, 29 percent of respondents said they can imagine a situation in which they would support the military taking control of the federal government – that translates into over 70 million American adults. Forty-one percent of respondents said could not imagine supporting the military taking over the country.

Republicans (43 percent) were more likely to say they can envision a scenario in which they could support a military coup than Democrats (20 percent). Perhaps that difference is related to having a Democratic president who some critics on the right see as overstepping his power.

Regardless of political ideology, one reason people might support a military coup is because they respect officers in the military far more than they do people in Congress. According to the same YouGov survey, almost three-quarters (70 percent) of respondents believe that military officers want what is best for the country, while only 29 percent think the same of members of Congress.

Lawmakers better shape up or they might be shipped out -- literally.

Could a coup really happen in the United States?

By Peter Moore | September 9, 2015, 12:55 p.m

43% of Republicans could imagine supporting a military coup in the United States

A law professor at West Point was forced to hastily resign after it emerged that he had authored a number of controversial articles. In one he suggested that legal scholars defending the rights of suspected terrorists could be considered legitimate military targets, while in another he examined a potential military coup in the United States, arguing that officers may have a duty to sieze control of the federal government if the federal government acted against the interest of the country. The United States military has long embraced the idea of civilian control of national affairs, and apart from certain rare moments the American officer corps has faithfully followed the orders of their civilian superiors.

YouGov's latest research shows, however, that officers in the military are held in much greater esteem than their civilian superiors, and that they are widely viewed as having the best interests of the country in mind instead of their own selfish concerns. 70% of Americans believe that military officers generally want what is best for the country. When it comes to Congressmen, however, 71% of Americans believe that they want what is best for themselves, along with 59% for local politicians.

29% of Americans could imagine a situation in which they would support the military seizing control of the federal government, while 41% could not imagine such a situation.

Republicans (43%) are more than twice as likely as Democrats (20%) to say that they could conceive of a situation in which they would support a military coup in the United States. Independents tend to say that they could not (38%) rather than could (29%) imagine supporting a coup.

The proportion of the country that would support a military takeover increases when people are asked whether they would hypothetically support the military stepping in to take control from a civilian government which is beginning to violate the constitution. 43% of Americans would support the military stepping in while 29% would be opposed.

FrontierJustice comments: More baiting, preemption, or something else? To me Jade Helm always seemed to be about putting an 'existentially symbolic bayonet' against more socially conservative and anti-establishment / anti-federal-overreach states.

A US military coup requires first that they lock up all the Generals and DOD SES.

I used to wonder why all the top military brass being appointed these days were fags.

Now I realize it's not because they are fags, it's because they are cryptos (which tend to be fags).
It's about control.

If word of a coup attempt has turned up like this, mechanisms for putting one down are already in high gear. The prowlers that be know they are hated for usurping the national agenda in a coup or two of their own, especially with 9/11, but also with JFK and the Liberty incident. It's mostly about getting away with murder.

The military likely fears the CIA and certainly knows what it is capable of.  They must know jew moles are everywhere.  That said, plans could be kept close hold; a coup is not impossible.
